Triggering a new game start programatically

Hi,

I was wondering if it is possible to trigger a new game start stat programatically. In my game Multiplayer Memory Mayhem:

Each game takes anywhere from 2 minutes up. But I encourage people to stay around and play more games and the game gets better and better as it builds up an atmosphere and the people in the game get to know each other... So people can end up playing for 30minutes plus and playing 10 plus games (at the end of each game there is a 15 second timer so people can leave if they want to)... But this only counts the same as someone who came along for 1 minute in your "games played" stats system...

I'm guessing the answer is no as a call such as this would be open to abuse and someone could write a game which called it repeatedly to generate plays. But it would be great if there was some way for a game to use such a call legitimately...

Thanks,

Kelvin :)

I get the why you want to do this, however its still only one game session in our eyes and is the standard way of counting.

How about adding a toplist to count who played the most games?

Yeah - I'll add in a toplist... It just seems a little unfair that the monthly and weekly competitions favour games which are quick and where the user has to return to the lobby after every game rather than games which are sticky and encourage people to stay playing for as long as possible...

On the flip side I can see how open to abuse such a command would be so I can see why you wouldn't want to add it... It would be interesting if you could maybe release stats about average game length for multiplayer games (which would be based on the amount of time each instance is attached to the multiplayer server)...

Re. adding the toplist, are there any rules re. creating new revisions while the Multiplayer Kick Off competition is still active?

Thanks,

Kelvin :)

I think a fair compromise would be to look at users created instead of views. It takes out a whole slew of other factors and adds in some very favorable incentives for developers =P
